Insights from the latest consortium meeting of CHARISMA Project (May 2023)

CHARISMA held its first consortium meeting of 2023 in Sofia (Bulgaria) from May 31 to June 1, 2023. The meeting aimed to provide an overview of the project's progress, address various work package (WP) updates and technical matters, and plan the upcoming CHARISMA events.

Day 1

The meeting commenced with a welcome and an introduction by ICP-CSIC, followed by a session on management led by European Research Services (ERS). 

One of the key highlights of the meeting was the CHARISMA tools setup, presented by IDEA and Fraunhofer LBF. The partners sought expert guidance concerning the installation/access for various tools such as Oranchada, Altaxo, and the data management system. They explored functionalities such as e-lab, data uploading, searching, and database management.

The agenda included sessions dedicated to the status updates of different work packages. The WP leaders presented the current progress, highlighted the main results, and raised open questions for further discussion.

Data management was a crucial topic of discussion, focusing on the database, data format, ontology. IDEA and SU led this session, addressing data management strategies and exploring opportunities for collaboration.

Dissemination activities were also discussed. Partners planned upcoming trainings, workshops, webinars and the final event under the guidance of Yordas. The aim was to enhance the project's outreach and engage with various stakeholders effectively.

Calibration and analysis were covered through hands-on sessions. Fraunhofer LBF and IDEA addressed the status, issues, and next steps in these sessions, providing practical demonstrations and engaging partners in discussions.

Technical issues, activity/event planning, bilateral/general discussions, and networking were conducted in parallel sessions involving all partners. Additionally, a workshop on chemometrics was organised towards the end of the first day.

At the end of the first day, the partners of CHARISMA project gathered for a delightful social dinner, where they had the opportunity to savour the traditional cuisine and enjoy the captivating folk music of Bulgaria in a charming restaurant.

Day 2

The second day of the meeting featured sessions on harmonisation and relevant protocols. These sessions explored possibilities, limitations, and demonstrations related to Raman harmonisation and interactions with different work packages. Mainly FNMT, Encapsulae, and TOPSOE contributed to these sessions.

The meeting also allocated time for action points and planning for the next months. This included discussing the next general assemblies, potential case studies, and further technical discussions.

Overall, the consortium meeting aimed to foster collaboration, address technical challenges, and ensure the project progressed effectively.

Through fruitful sessions on management, work package updates, data management, dissemination, and technical discussions, the CHARISMA partners actively engaged in shaping the future direction of the project.
